Data Collection Workshop by Copenhagenize

Sunnyvale is developing its Active Transportation Plan (ATP) and plans to release their first public draft in January 2020. The Active Transportation Plan will help the City strategically invest in programs and projects to make walking and bicycling safer and more convenient for residents.

In parallel, SVBC is working on a Bicycle Project Prioritization Tool with the consultant Copenhaganize and plans to evaluate the tool on the project list in the ATP. Copenhagenize is a multidisciplinary "go-to" consultant team for cities in all matters relating to bicycling culture, planning, traffic and communications. They are based out of Copenhagen, Denmark and also have a North-American office in Montreal.

As a part of  developing the project prioritization tool, Copenhaganize will be conducting a Data Collection Workshop. The workshop aims to educate interested community members on how to employ observational techniques in local data collection. Copenhaganize will present examples from around the globe of successful data-oriented bicycle-friendly policies, and with participants discuss the ways to gather data and transform it to drive policy change in Silicon Valley. They will also teach how to count people biking along with how to observe how their behavior highlights the need for better infrastructure. Lastly, we'll explore the ways data can create compelling advocacy. using field and desire line analysis data, participants will brainstorm a communications strategy to tell the story of needed changes in intersection design.
