SVBC Board Elections
The SVBC Board of Directors is actively seeking new board members who share and support the vital interests of SVBC. The system for recruiting new members takes us years and we’re always seeking new prospects. We have a running list of about 40 prospective candidates that we work with over time and based on those interactions then recommend a slate of candidates to bring to the membership for a vote.We are especially seeking candidates with legal expertise and prior non-profit board experience, and we are focused on attracting candidates who represent the gender, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. The Board of Directors of SVBC is elected to serve the membership in guiding policy, governance, and keeping the organization effective in pursuing the mission to create a healthy community, environment, and economy through bicycling. Board members are expected to prepare for and attend all board meetings, and to actively participate on at least one standing committee such as Finance, Governance or Development. Board members are expected to make a personally significant financial contribution to SVBC, either directly or though their work on the board.Typical duties of the board include:
Governing the organization by establishing broad policies and yearly goals
Ensuring the availability of adequate financial resources through fundraising
Reviewing and approving annual budgets
Being accountable for organization performance to our membership and stakeholders
Actively participating in one or more of the standing and ad hoc committees
If you are interested in serving SVBC in a board capacity, please submit a description of your relevant experience, what you can offer the organization, and why you would like to serve on the board. Send inquiries to ride@bikesiliconvalley.org. The Executive Director and members of the board nominations committee will contact you to discuss your interest.Alternatively, if you are interested in getting more involved with SVBC but fundraising and organizational development/governance are not your primary interests, please explore the possibilities listed under the Get Involved menu on our homepage. It is also worth noting that if you’re reading this via our ebulletin, you may not be an official member. If you would like to vote in the upcoming Board election, the deadline to become a member is November 15th. You can join here for only $35, which is a floor, not a ceiling… Feel free to donate more as a part of your membership and sign up to be an annual recurring member so you don’t have to remember to re-up next year.
