Pedaling Partnership in North Fair Oaks

There’s a movement afoot in Redwood City – a “pedaling” movement centered in the North Fair Oaks community! Earlier this year, SVBC partnered with the Siena Youth Center’s Bulldog Riders – a youth group focused on using the bike as a tool to promote health and environmental awareness – to gather youth input on the Middlefield street design. We’re excited to announce that SVBC will be working with the Bulldog Riders through mid-2019 to encourage North Fair Oaks residents of all ages to use their bikes for fun and transportation. On November 15, SVBC assisted with the Bulldog Riders’ “Bike Sale and Food Sale” – a fundraiser for the victims of the fires in Northern California. About 50 people attended, and SVBC enjoyed the opportunity to hear their goals and ideas about biking in and around their neighborhood. Two weeks later, SVBC met with the Bulldog Riders to build on that momentum and create an action plan for organizing a festive bike night in January for the whole community. The students formed subcommittees to create and manage the event, taking on everything from designing flyers and a social media campaign, to deciding what activities to include. This will be the first of many exciting bike-centric events and fun, educational biking workshops in the North Fair Oaks community. Watch this space for future developments with this exciting program!
