The Legacy of Livable Streets: Three decades later, what have we learned?
Donald Appleyard’s seminal 1981 book Livable Streets revealed the detrimental effects of automobile traffic on street life and communities. How has this influential book affected city planning and transport policies since then? In this talk, hear about contemporary evidence of automobile impacts and best practices from places where livable streets have become a priority.
This event will feature Bruce Appleyard, who is working on the second edition to his father’s book and Joshua Hart, who will discuss how he replicated Appleyard’s study for the first time in Europe.
